Today is The Big One’s golden birthday. Yeah! He woke up, and in the tradition of confetti at wake-up on your birthday, I dropped 12 gold coins on his body. Then Papa did the same. Devil baby woke up an hour later and now we are all making breakfast, borrowing cars (more on that later) and getting our swimsuits on for our chilly afternoon at the Johnson Street Waterpark (known to some as Jim Lupient Water Park, but I just can’t fathom the idea of Minneapolis Parks being renamed for car dealers).
Gotta hop in my wheels to get eggs. I’m remembering the lazy days of owning a car. The seduction is overwhelming. Go, go, go. Go, dog, go.

Happy Birthday, Big One! You’re a tween now, next year you will be a teen!
It may seem hard now, riding your bikes so many places. But not too far into the future, you will have great stories about how strong and brave you were as a kid riding bikes in traffic and riding all over the city on the bus. You’re learning stuff lots of kids won’t even begin to learn until they go to college! Stuff like the fact that there are buses that can get you to places without having to ask other people for rides. Like how people interact with others who don’t do things like everyone else.. And of course, how to hook up a trailer to a bike and use it to shop for groceries - so many kids don’t even GO to the grocery store and have no idea how much stuff costs! You’re getting so smart!
I can see from the pictures that you had a great day. This year will be awesome, too! Happy Birthday!

Happy belated birthday Aidan! Who probably doesn’t remember me, but I remember you when you were the Small One.
